Acceptable and Unacceptable Donations – What Does Loretta's Helping Hands, Corp Take?

Donation Guidelines:

Gently used items in good condition. Donations should be clean and safe. You can find all donation sites here. We are unable to do home pick-ups. To find a list of items we cannot accept, please scroll to the next section.

Loretta's Helping Hands, Corp employees may decline a donation if it is not in clean or saleable condition or if they are unable to assist with larger items due to risk of injury. Our employees often help unload donations, however cannot help if (in their judgment) doing so may damage any vehicle, or if doing so is unsafe for them or anyone else.

Acceptable Donations List:

• Small Appliances

  • Such as irons, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, radios, etc.

• Large Appliances

  • Such as stoves, ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc.

• Area Rugs

• Bed Frames

• Bicycles

• Books

• Cars

• Clothing

  • Such as shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, sweaters, etc.

• Computers, Printers, and Accessories

• Dishes, Pots, and Pans

• Small Exercise Equipment

  • Such as resistance bands, weights, workout items, etc.

• Household Furniture

  • Such as sofas, chairs, kitchen sets, end tables, coffee tables, etc.

• Lawn Furniture

• Lamps

• Media Items

  • Such as DVDs, VHS, CDs, vinyl records, Blu-Ray, etc.

• Shoes

• Sports Equipment

  • Such as baseballs, basketballs, fishing poles (not tackle), footballs, hockey gear, tennis rackets, etc.

• Televisions

  • Such as flatscreen TVs in working order only. No CRTs.

• Hand Tools

• Lawn and Garden Tools

• Toys

• Medical Assistive Devices

  • Such as wheelchairs, walkers, etc.

• New Baby Equipment

• New Bed Pillows

• New light bulbs

  • We can accept only brand-new household lightbulbs that are still sealed in their original boxes.

• Sealed Liquids

  • Including lotions, hair care products, etc.

• New, Unused Mattresses, Box Springs, or Waterbeds

• New Swing Sets

• New Blinds

We are unable to accept:

We are unable to accept the following due to legal or liability risks, safety or hazardous/universal waste concerns, recycling and/or disposal fees:

• Air Conditioners

  • Or other freon-containing appliances

• Ammunition or Weapons

  • Including BB guns, pellet guns, and arrows

• Automobile Parts

• Used Bike Helmets

• Bunk Beds

• Chemicals

  • Household or industrial

• Construction Debris

• Large Standing Copiers

• Large Exercise Equipment

  • Such as treadmills, Bowflexes, elliptical machines, etc.

• Fishing Tackle

• Flammable Liquids/Gases

  • Such as lamp oil, gasoline, propane, kerosene, sterno, butane, etc.

• Damaged Furniture

  • In unsellable or broken condition

• Hazardous Wastes

  • Such as lead acid batteries, paints, fuels, solvents, oils, or equipment containing these

• Hospital Beds

• Humidifiers

• Used Lightbulbs

  • Including halogen lamps.

• Unsealed or Used Liquids

  • Lotions, chemicals, lamp oil, any liquid at all that is not brand new and sealed.

• Used Mattresses, Box Springs, or Waterbeds

• Pharmaceuticals

• Pianos and Organs

• Recalled Items

  • Manufacturer recalled consumer items or items that do not meet current safety standards of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

• Smoke Detectors

• Used Swing Sets

• CRT Televisions

  • We cannot accept tube-style TVs in any condition.

• Used Blinds

• Wall-to-Wall Carpeting
